Miracles in Motion is dedicated to providing the “Miracle” of therapeutic
horseback riding to improve the physical, emotional, cognitive and social lives
of individuals with special needs.
Miracles in Motion (MIM) Therapeutic Riding was founded in 1999 by volunteers with
a heart led vision and horses whose lives were about to be transformed by the “miracle”
work they now perform. MIM has grown each year and, in 2005, purchased it's
new home at 118 Wyman Road in Keene, New Hampshire. The facility includes an indoor
arena, 12 stalls, several turn-out paddocks, a heated tack room and office, a wash
stall and 18 acres of beautiful land all nestled rurally just minutes from downtown
Keene. This location is pivotal for MIM whose goal is to establish its roots deep
within the community as a healing place for all who love horses.
MIM is a tax exempt charitable organization. MIM therapeutic
riding instructors are all certified.
WHERE MIM RIDERS COME FROM
Participants in the MIM therapeutic riding program are often referred by local professional
organizations, such as MDS or Cedarcrest, while some are referred by their physical,
occupational or speech therapists. Others have heard about the benefits of therapeutic
riding for individuals with disabilities through a friend or family member and scheduled
a visit of MIM to determine if it was right for them.Riders often come from nearly
one hour away for a weekly lesson.
Some riders receive funding through a foundation such as Harry Gregg Foundation
or from a direct gift from a family member. Others pay for the
lessons themselves. For some, application to our scholarship fund is the only option.
This fund is limited and offered on a need assessed basis.
SEASONAL RIDING VS YEAR-ROUND RIDING
Therapeutic riding is offered year round at MIM and, for those who are less affected
by cold temperatures, participating annually provides individuals with the upmost
benefits from a continuous therapy program. Despite having an indoor arena, extreme
cold or heat remains a cause for a cancelled lesson which is often rescheduled at
a later date. For those riders who are unable to ride in extreme weather conditions,
seasonal riding is best.
MIM schedules private and semi-private (up to 3 in a class) therapeutic riding lessons
Tuesdays through Saturdays in eight week sessions.
